The Grammy Awards are being held right now (February 12, 2012). Here is a continuation of a look back at the Grammy winners of the ’80s:

1984

This was the Michael Jackson Year. He won Album of the Year and Pop Vocal – Male for Thriller:

Michael Jackson also won Record of the Year and Rock Vocal – Male for “Beat It”:

Irene Cara won Pop Vocal – Female for “Flashdance…What A Feeling”:

Rock Vocal – Female went to Pat Benatar for “Love Is A Battlefield”:

Sting and The Police won Song of the Year and Pop Performance – Duo or Group with Vocal for “Every Breath You Take”:

And Best New Artist went to Culture Club:

1985

This was a big Awards show for Tina Turner. She won Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Pop Vocal – Female for “What’s Love Got To Do With It?” as well as Rock Vocal – Female for “Better Be Good To Me” :

Album of the Year went to Lionel Richie for Can’t Slow Down:

Phil Collins won Pop Vocal – Male for “Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)”:

Pop Performance – Duo or Group with Vocal went to The Pointer Sisters for “Jump (for My Love)”:

Bruce Springsteen won Rock Vocal – Male for “Dancing In The Dark”:

And Cyndi Lauper was the Best New Artist:

1986

“We Are the World” was successful at these Grammy Awards. It won Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Pop Performance – Duo or Group with Vocal:

Phil Collins also had a good show, winning Album of the Year and Pop Vocal – Male for No Jacket Required:
Whitney Houston won Pop Vocal – Female for “Saving All My Love For You”:

And Best New Artist went to Sade:
